The following are profiles of Stanford affiliated individuals who are making an impact in the IDD community. By highlighting these individuals, we hope to inspire a larger movement for inclusion and give people ideas about how they can also get involved.

Mental Health Awareness Month

Meet Justin Steinberg

Justin Steinberg is a research assistant at the Stanford Center for Biomedical Ethics. Embracing his visual impairment and autism spectrum disorder, Justin achieved academic success and now advocates for mental health support within the IDD community. In addition to his work at Stanford and outstanding academic achievements, Justin is also a Special Olympics Northern California athlete, board member, coach and athlete leader.

Meet Dr. Holly Kathryn Tabor

Dr. Holly Kathryn Tabor (Ph.D) is an Associate Professor of Medicine at Stanford University, Associate Director for Clinical Ethics and Education for the Stanford Center for Biomedical Ethics (SCBE) and Co-Chair of the Ethics Committees at Stanford Hospital and Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital. Holly's research through IDD-TRANSFORM is working to amplify the voices of individuals with disabilities to improve their healthcare outcomes. IDD-TRANSFORM is one of many initiatives Holly has spearheaded in an effort to create a more inclusive community.

Meet Dr. Lisa Goldman Rosas

Dr. Lisa Goldman Rosas (Ph.D, MPH) is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Epidemiology and Population Health and Department of Medicine, Associate Director of Community Engagement at the Center for Population Health Sciences, Co-Director of Community-Engaged Research at the Office of Cancer Health Equity, and Faculty Director at the Office of Community Engagement. She has also been working with IDD-TRANSFORM for over 2 years, where she is excited to be learning more about the IDD community. 

Staff Spotlight

Meet Teresa Jurado

Teresa Jurado is the assistant manager of the parent mentor program at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital. She is also a parent of a child with a developmental disability who inspired her to create an additional support group specifically for families who have a child with a developmental disability at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital. Teresa hopes to utilize the developmental disability parent mentor program to make families who have a child with a development delay more aware of the resources that exist at the hospital.

Student Spotlight

Meet Emily Isabelle Hui

Emily is an undergraduate senior at Stanford University majoring in human biology and minoring in psychology. She is working to create a more inclusive community for people with IDD through her work with Kids with Dreams (KWD), where she is the founder/ director of their dance program.

Community Spotlight

Meet Bradley Margetts

Bradley is a community leader and disability activist, giving speeches about how people can create more inclusive communities through Special Olympics Northern California (SONC). He’s been a part of Special Olympics for 20 years, where he serves as a board member, athlete, and athlete leader. Bradley is also contributing to the Stanford community through being on the Core Advisory Board for IDD-TRANSFORM.
